Aiken Hospitality Tax Increase Now in Effect
Thursday, October 8th, 2026
Aiken’s hospitality tax increase is now in effect, and businesses and customers are weighing in on what the change could mean for their wallets.
The city’s hospitality tax on prepared food and beverages increased from 1% to 2% on Oct. 1.
For some businesses, the additional cost will not be passed on to customers.
Aiken business owner David Meunier said he has decided to absorb the increase at his restaurants.
“What I decided with all my other restaurants is not to pass this on to the clients,” Meunier said. “Each restaurant will pay on behalf of the clients.”
Meunier said he believes the additional cost could ultimately benefit businesses if the revenue is used to bring more visitors to Aiken.
