Augusta Metro Area Government Jobs Increase in September

An increase in state and local government employment resulted in a net increase of jobs for the Augusta metro area in September.

The Georgia Department of Labor reported there were 230,600 jobs in the seven-county Augusta metro area last month, an increase of 1,300 from August.

There were 600 additional state jobs and 600 more local government jobs, according to data. Slight losses in hospitality, retail and professional services were offset by additional jobs in utilities and educational services.

In total, the metro area has 47,900 workers in government.
