GA–On Friday, June 19, 2026, Augusta Symphony Music Director & Maestro Dirk Meyer received the prestigious Arts Entertainment Award from the Greater Augusta Arts Council at their Annual Arts Awards & Gala. The evening was
dedicated to celebrating the artists, advocates, organizations, educators, visionaries, and creative leaders who shape the cultural heartbeat of the River Region.

“Some people conduct orchestras. Others conduct culture. For the past nine years, Maestro Dirk Meyer has done both,” said Greater Augusta Arts Council Executive Director Denise Tucker. “While his résumé is impressive and his accomplishments are many, what matters most is the impact he has had right here in Augusta. Through his leadership of the Augusta Symphony, he
has helped create experiences that have inspired audiences, elevated the arts, and reminded us that music still has the power to bring people together.”

Augusta Symphony Board President Vicki Bedder expressed her gratitude and appreciation for Meyer’s vision, stating, “The Board of Directors and staff at the Augusta Symphony and Miller Theater are extremely proud of his leadership, professionalis m, and steadfast dedication to achieving excellence. The result enriches the lives of children and adults within the CSRA through his diverse programming across our Masterworks and Pops!concerts.”

The award comes at a perfect time, just ahead of the Augusta Symphony’s 72nd season. The upcoming season showcases artists from a variety of backgrounds and talents while telling stories of celebration and triumph with music by composers spanning centuries . From Mahler’s ResurrectionSymphonyto Broadway legend Jennifer Holliday performing her greatest hits, the upcoming season has been expertly curated to resonate with everyone in the CSRA.
